The Attorney General’s office is very aggressive about setting and collecting child support and is given a broad array of powers and remedies, including incarceration, suspending passports and licenses, and taking your money without court action if you don’t contest it. If you are involved with an Attorney General matter, they do not work for you, they work for collecting money. You should hire an experienced attorney to defend you.
Turn to an attorney who cares about your family.
Also, Men, did you know that when you have a child outside of marriage, you will be asked to sign a document called an “Acknowledgement of Paternity” (AOP). If you sign this, you are automatically deemed to be the child’s LEGAL father, without any court proceeding. This obligates you to pay child support, etc. If your girlfriend has a child and you are not sure you are the actual biological father, do not sign the AOP. Instead, require paternity DNA testing.
